So in my last post I made about our new house I showed you the cute little cut-out my husband made between our kitchen and living room. It seemed like such a shame to not maximize that space and add a kitchen bar. I pictured in the mornings our daughter could sit there with her cereal watching cartoons….it could be used for extra counter space or extra seating when we have guests over…. So I talked to my husband and asked him to go back to Lowe’s and order another piece of quartz for the bar. That way it would match the beautiful counters we were already having installed. When we saw the estimate we were a little hesitant. The budget just wasn’t going to stretch that far….A small slab of quartz was going to be $450.
So we went to Lowe’s and bought all the stuff to MAKE a bar. That’s right. We DIY’ed a kitchen bar by ourselves in less than half a day. And it’s beautiful. It’s a little bit of rustic in our modern kitchen. The color matches our hardwood floors and cabinets and I honestly am glad we didn’t buy the quartz. It adds some charm the kitchen was lacking otherwise. All for only $80-ish bucks!
Things you’ll need:
*Wood board slightly larger than you want your bar. (Make sure it is a hardwood – I believe we used a cedar board but Cherry, Oak, or Walnut would work too.)
*Wood trim
*Screws
*Wood filler
*Wood Stain
*Polyurethane
*Paint Brush
*Circular Saw
*Shelving Brackets
*Sand paper
*Drill
*Hammer
*Nails
The pictures are pretty self-explanatory….but this is how we made ours. I think it turned out really well!
